This is the story of a hand-crafted Damascene steel knife, from raw metal folded 64 times, and a tree trunk, to a fine blade and polished yew handle. Alchemy or science? I worked for a month to capture the process of Damascene steel-making. In his forge in the forest, master smith Mael Miranda uses the same techniques of welding, hammering and folding steel that would have been used in medieval times. These same techniques would have created the sword Talharcant that belonged to Dragonetz los Pros, the hero of my Troubadours books. Welcome to a magical world of fire and steel.
